CHASSE DAVIDSON ART

"My main inspiration rests with nature. I stand in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us in this state and notably here on the coast, and love bringing my surroundings into my work. Working with clay is mainly about how it makes me feel, like a saner human being."

Inspired by Bark

My recent pottery is the result of much time looking and pondering at the complexity of texture on the bark of the towering fir trees in my backyard.

Horsehair on green raku.png

Horsehair Raku

Horsehair applied to the heated clay during the raku process creates smoke patterns and carbon trails that remain as a natural, spontaneous embellishment.

Shell, Leaf, Feather

Nature is the inspiration in my work, whether it be using shells or leaves to make impressions in the clay, or burning snake sheds, feathers, or horsehair for carbon markings.

Pottery Gallery and New Work

Artist Collaboration

Chasse Davidson and Ram Papish, biologist and wildlife artist, have been collaborating on a series of commissioned pieces. Davidson throws the vessels and Papish draws wildlife images using a technique called sgraffito, "scratching" the surface layers of the pottery to draw.
